I think the method as such could be useful, if the goal is to reforest a large area in less time. However it also has to be considered, that it could be problematic if only one species is planted and I am not sure if this method can create a functioning forest ecosystem. Also it is important that trees are planted in the right regions. As I mentioned before forestation at high latitudes can be counterproductive (due to albedo effects). So I think his idea is a good approach but I am not sure if it will work the way it is supposed to work.
